Dietitian vs Nutritionist?
Dietitians have the professional knowledge and experience to assess nutritional needs and to recommend appropriate dietry treatment. They learn how to interpret research studies and apply that knowledge to counseling individuals on how to improve their lifestyle and health.
A dietitian is able to look at your medical history, current symptoms, medications, supplements, exercise routine, weight, and eating habits and give advice that is safe and effective for you to reach your goals.
A registered dietitian (RD) is a protected title like a registered nurse (RN) or a medical doctor (MD). Dietitians must have completed a 4 year degree in nutrition and dietetics, practical hospital based placements, are bound by a Code of Ethics and are required to complete continued professional development each year in order to maintain their registered status.
In contast a nutritionist is not a protected title, and anyone can call themselves a nutritionist whether they have done a 1 day course or a degree in nutrition.
